DON’T UNDERESTIMATE WATER
Water is essential for healthy weight management. Most of us recognize the importance of healthy eating and physical activity. But hydration is also a part of this process. It certainly has worked for me. And why not? It’s simple enough to do.
This post will list the reasons why we should drink water for better health. I will also list a few items from Amazon which encourage better hydration.
Hydration during exercise. Water helps us to regulate our body temperature and replace fluids lost through perspiration during physical activity. Proper hydration supports endurance and performance during exercise.
Weight loss. Drinking water can promote a feeling of fullness. This will boost our metabolism and reduce our calorie intake. We may at times even mistake thirst for hunger. Staying hydrated can assist in the breakdown of nutrients and the conversion of food into energy.
Appetite control. Drinking water before meals can help control our appetite and reduce our calorie intake.
Joint lubrication. Water is a key component of synovial fluid, which lubricates joints. Hydration is especially important for joint health during high impact activities.
Muscle recovery. Staying hydrated helps us in the recovery process by flushing out toxins and reducing muscle soreness after a workout.
Muscle function. Proper hydration supports muscle contractions, helping to prevent cramps and to maintain optimal muscle function during exercise.
Skin health. Water helps to keep our skin hydrated and can contribute to a healthy complexion, reducing the risk of skin issues due to dehydration – patches of rough and scaly skin.
Prevention of dehydration health issues. Dehydration can lead to headaches, dizziness and cramping. Keep hydrated!
Improved cognitive function. Dehydration can negatively affect our focus and concentration. Proper hydration promotes mental clarity during our workouts.
Heart health. Maintaining healthy hydration supports cardiovascular health by assuring the proper viscosity of our blood as it is pumped.
I am an Amazon associate, which means I may use their links in my articles and earn from the sales that result. This has no effect on the pricing.
The links will present detailed information, with images, prices and access to links of other similar or complementary items.
This is an opportune time to visit Amazon, since they are giving us many discounts for the nextcouple of days, through Cyber Monday.
There may be occasions when we hydrate during an activity, but not sufficiently. I was playing in an amateur tennis tournament in my early 50s. In 100 degrees, hot sun and a match that went for over two hours. At the end, my fingers and toes were cramping and I couldn’t control them. I needed bananas for potassium replacement and should have used an electrolyte water drink, though I drank plenty of water. Maybe I would have been okay at a younger age. Or a cooler day.
We need to remember that individual hydration needs will vary with climate, exercise intensity and our age or physical condition.
Let’s listen to our bodies and drink water consistently throughout the day.

Let’s stay active, but hydrated.
