A LITTLE HISTORY
I have been a satisfied customer of Dick’s Sporting Goods for several decades. As a tennis player, golfer and workout fanatic, I found Dick’s Sporting Goods to be the best source for athletic equipment. I also liked their sportswear
The company was founded by Richard Stack in 1948. It started as a bait and tackle store and gradually expanded into full-line sporting goods, now the largest sporting goods company in the United States.
Over the years, DSG expanded its product offerings and opened numerous stores, now up to 850. The company’s growth was driven by a combination of acquisitions and organic expansion.
In 2002, DSG went public, now trading under the ticker symbol “DKS”. In 2012 the company became an official sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee, which increased its visibility and brand recognition.
Dick’s Sporting Goods is known for its wide range of sporting goods and outdoor equipment, including, apparel, footwear and sports equipment – catering to a broad spectrum of sports and outdoor activities.
The company is often praised for its customer service, knowledgeable staff and product quality. They also offer equipment repair and maintenance.
They actively engage in community programs, youth sports initiatives and sponsorships. Since 2014, DSG has given $80 million in support of young athletes.
In 2018, following the Parkland school shooting, DSG announced that it would stop selling assault-style rifles and high capacity magazines – and would not sell any firearms or ammunition to anyone under the age of 21. Gun control advocates were pleased, but some saw this as an infringement on Second Amendment rights. DSG sacrificed profits in its willingness to take a stand on this issue.

Dick’s Sporting Goods has invested in its e-commerce platform, making it easier for customers to shop Online, a convenient way to purchase sporting goods.
Personally, I enjoyed going to their store when I was younger, but now I find it much more convenient to shop Online. I can peruse their entire inventory more easily and be more aware of special discounts.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Dick’s Sporting Goods has earned its excellent reputation by its wide range of consumer products, its customer service and its active involvement in the community it serves. I have never had any experience other than satisfactory ones with this company – over 5 decades.
