A BRIEF BIT OF HISTORY

“Black Friday” began in Philadelphia, where traffic after Thanksgiving was so troublesome that the police began to use that term. But the term was not unique to that occasion. Black Friday was used in 1929 with the crash of the stock market and possibly in 1869 to describe plummeting gold prices.
More recently, Black Friday has become known as the day when retail stores get out of the red and into the black. For shoppers, the negativity of Black Friday has changed to represent a very positive buying occasion.
