Fitness becomes increasingly beneficial as we age. It helps to preserve strength, mobility, balance and metabolic health, all of which decline over time. Fitness also supports mood, sleep and overall resilience. Staying active makes it easier to manage weight, blood sugar and joint stiffness, while lowering the risk of chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.
During holidays – when routines may get disrupted and rich meals are more common – maintaining even a modest exercise habit can offset extra calories, keep energy levels steady and reinforce a sense of control and well-being. The season becomes more enjoyable when we don’t feel physically weighed down.

My personal routine is to complete a 30 – minute workout every morning before breakfast. Over the years, the workout has changed to fit my needs and capabilities. Currently, I emphasize physical therapy for fingers and neck and much core work for abdominals, obliques and pelvic floor. I finish with chest and back one day, triceps and biceps the next.
My core work varies from one day to the next, which lessens the monotony of my routines. I also like to change the sources of resistance and number of reps and sets periodically.

FINAL THOUGHTS
In my opinion, forming positive habits is the key to developing a continuous fitness routine. Our motivation may at times wane, but strong habits generally override a lack of motivation. My morning workout is so entrenched that I would have difficulty skipping it even if I were to try.
Habits are not usually formed by making New Year’s resolutions, but by psychological factors – learning and constant repetition. Habits can be good or bad and they are developed similarly.
Here is a thought : a 30 – minute workout routine takes up about 2% of our day. We have 98% for everything else. Isn’t this allocation of our time worth it?
