the CAMERON DIAZ EXERCISE ROUTINE

ANOTHER FIT CELEBRITY…..

Cameron Diaz will be 50 years old this month (August 30). She has been a model, an actress, an entrepreneur and an author. Most of us know her as a glamorous actress.

She wrote two books on health, “The Body Book” and “The Longevity Book”, both of which became New York Times bestsellers.

I enjoy researching and reporting on celebrities, since these posts seem to attract attention.

My prior posts on celebrities include these actresses:

Halle Berry

Jennifer Lopez

Helen Mirren

Obviously, these celebrities have the financial means to hire personal trainers. Jennifer Lopez even had trainers on both the east coast and west coast.

Still, they themselves had to do the work and some of their routines seem exhausting. The personal trainers only gave guidance. There are many wealthy people who are overweight and seemingly not fit or healthy.

As a prime example of doing the work, Jeff Bezos has one of the toughest routines I have ever seen.

Cameron Diaz is 5’8″ tall and weighs 130. She is an ectomorph. Growing up, she was teased because of her skinny body. She seemed to regret not being classically “curvy”.
This post will explore Cameron’s fitness habits, her diet and a few of her quotations.

CAMERON’S WORKOUTS

For her legs, Cameron does:

  • Single leg squats – 15 reps per leg
  • Side curtsies – 15 reps per leg
  • Plies with calf raises – also 15 reps per side

She does not use heavy weights, generally only 5-10 pounds, sometimes less, 15 pounds at the most.

For her arms, with light dumbbells:

  • Biceps curl – 15-20 reps per arm
  • Triceps kickbacks – 10 reps per arm

For cardio:

  • She does interval training – walking on her treadmill for 60 seconds, then jogging for 30 seconds, switching back and forth like this for a total of 15 minutes. She even shortens this to 5 minutes at times.
  • Cameron also will go to a gym and do 45 minutes of Pilates

For her abdominal muscles:

  • Planks
  • Twists while planking
  • Standing torso twist
  • Standing crunch
  • Roll ups

She does other core exercises, often with an exercise ball (squeezing her midsection with a ball or twisting with a ball)

Her favorite sports:

  • Tossing tires – this improves her arm strength and definition
  • Golfing – which she says burns 266 calories per hour
  • Paddle boarding – for 500-700 calories burned per hour
  • Jet skiing – which burns about 450 calories per hour

Cameron is shown paddle boarding below –

And here she is, flipping a tire. Note her muscular arms. No glamour here.

Here is a quick video of Cameron explaining her very brief cardio interval workout (only 5 minutes)

She says “Exercise for me is like eating, sleeping and breathing. I’m consistent, and when I’m not, it shows up on my body”.

HER DIET PLAN

In her younger years, Cameron was a fast food junkie, favoring burritos and nachos with extra cheese at Taco Bell.

She now says “Good nutrition can extend life. What we eat affects how long we live and how we feel every day we are alive”.

Cameron eats for the fuel needed in her workouts and to age gracefully.

She tends to like Mediterranean style diets, which are featured by:

  • Produce
  • Whole grains
  • Good fats
  • Healthy proteins

Cameron starts every morning by chugging a large water bottle. She wants to hydrate her body after 8 hours without fluids. She doesn’t drink coffee, but sometimes she has tea.

She has two breakfasts:

  • Before her workout, she may have an apple with almond butter or maybe scrambled eggs
  • After the workout, she may have chicken, grains and veggies

A typical lunch may be roasted chicken tenders, with veggies and couscous. Or she may have a green leafy salad. She says lemon juice, garlic, olive oil or salt “can make anything taste good”.

A dinner favorite is Greek braised lamb chops with herbed goat cheese.

When she eats out, she likes Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches and maybe pork bellies.

Cameron believes in the 80-20 rule for eating, that 80% of what she eats must be wholesome and healthy. The other 20% can be salty or sugary comfort foods. She doesn’t always severely restrict her eating choices.

Unlike many people, she does not rely on supplements, but she does take a multivitamin pill daily.

CAMERON DIAZ QUOTATIONS

“I can’t think of anything that anyone has ever accomplished without having some sort of self-discipline”.

“Convenience is not an acceptable foundational value for society. It’s a disease”.

“I’m living my life as a journey. My quest is to make it better every year”.

“Your regrets aren’t what you did, but what you didn’t do. So I take every opportunity”.

“I think that anything you do, any accomplishment that you make, you have to work for. And I’ve worked very hard for the last ten years of my life, definitely, and I can tell you that hard work pays off. It’s not just a cliche”.

“The foundation of youth for me….lots of water, lots of laughter, lots of sex”.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is my 23rd article on celebrities and their fitness routines. In every case, these successful people were both highly disciplined and consistent in their approach to improving and maintaining their bodies.

Cameron Diaz is certainly no exception. Maybe she was genetically gifted, but she didn’t like being too skinny when she was much younger. She has learned to accept her tall and angular body.

A lesson to all of us – don’t be afraid of hard work!

By the way, check my sidebar affiliations. Dick’s Sporting Goods now has many items at up to 50% discounts.
